Monday Journal Prompt

Think about all the things you did over your weekend.  Now imagine if people were still being prosecuted for witchcraft today.  Write a newspaper article about your conviction and the terrible thing you did to get thrown into the Salem jail and potentially hanged.

What if...

What if Abigail had not gotten her way and the plan she devised to get Elizabeth Proctor convicted of witchcraft somehow fell through?  What if Mary Warren never sewed that poppet?  What if Abigail never had a chance to stick herself with a needle over dinner that evening to blame it on Elizabeth practicing voodoo?  How would the play change?  Would it change?  Would Abigail's character simply devise another plan to get rid of Elizabeth or would she give up on her "love" for John Proctor and confess that she was a fraud?

For this journal, I want you to rewrite the beginning of Act III (in play format) considering if Abigail's elaborate plan fell through.  Remember to introduce the act, set the scene, and use realistic dialogue!  Have fun with this!

Thursday Journal Prompt

Write a diary entry from the perspective of one of the characters in the play.  Each one of them is going through a personal struggle; what would they have to say if they were writing down their thoughts?  Check out your character sheet, and choose a good one!

Happy Wednesday!

I hope you all gained understanding of The Crucible yesterday by listening to Act I of the dramatized version!  Hopefully it put some of the characters into perspective for you!

Today:

- Act I Quiz (35 points)

- Journal Prompt:

Finish this thought: If I lived in Salem in 1692...  Think about how it would be to live back then.  What would you have done for work?  Who would you have married?  Would you have kids?  Would you believe in witchcraft?  Why/why not?  Would you have lied to save yourself from being hanged?  Would you live in town or outside of town like John Proctor?  Why?  Would you have cooperated with the Native Americans or pushed them away as the Puritans did?  Be specific and have fun with this journal!

- Begin Act II - the plot thickens...
